THIS THE TRIBUTE JERRY PAQUIN READ TO THE DAARA FELLOWSHIP ON SATURDAY NOVEMBER 12, 2005

"Ron died in August, unable to recover from surgery performed to fix an aneurysm in his abdomen.

Our father was born with a wrench in his hand and most admired a certain uncle who raced sprint cars and was an excellent fabricator...Dad followed in his uncle's footsteps and became a racer, and a jack of all trades-master of most...For those who knew him, he was the one you took your broken stuff to that you were convinced was beyond repair, and relied on to walk you through all mechanical, plumbling, electrical, and other repairs...He knew a lot about a lot of things.

Back in the 1960's, he and his brother Warren were very involved in the creation of the Florida City Speedway and both raced Three Quarter Midgets there...He invested a lot of his time and talent in the racing enviroment at FCS and was it's flagman in the latter years.

In 1992 he met Chris Smith who encouraged him to refurbish his Crosley powered TQ and join DAARA...He entheusiastically did so and joining DAARA began a wonderful relationship between him, the club and it's members that lasted until the end...Two of his favorite things to do were camping and racing, and the two Zephyrhills events for DAARA gave him the opportunity to combine the two where he set up a tent city and cooked up some aromatic camp food that would bring poeple around searching for the source of such good aromas...He was always proud to receive compliments on his Crosley car's ability, but even more proud to receive compliments for his cooking..He was fun guy to be around and made it his business to make the rest of us laugh, especially at the camp fire each night where the "whopper nationals" were held so each racer could tell stories of how fast they used to be.

Dad passed some of his knowledge and his passion for racing to Mike and I who feel lucky to have had him for a father...The next generation is now in training to take our place in the future....
